Since beginning of 2014, the SBB/CFF/FFS has started to published an export of the full timetable for Switzerland bus, train and other public transport modes. The format is available for download after registration. http://gtfs.geops.ch/ transformed the HRDF (HAFAS) format into a GTFS Feed for more convenient integration.

Public transportation in Switzerland is run by a private company, with government regulation (see federal railroads law, in French). Open timetable data that is not supported by a Swiss transport agency can be found in an unofficial API: transport.opendata.ch

This data set only considers the transport system information of Santiago de Chile.

Metadata also available as a text file in spanish which describes the csv files. For each column in the csv, a description is provided.

These are timetables for the public bus system in Iceland's capital region and any public bus routes connecting the capital region and other municipalities.

In order to use the data, each user must register an IP address from which to access the data (for intermediate server caching and to get contact persons).

The information refers only to national railway system (public company). There is no national bus company. The data was published recently on the government's open data portal data.gov.ro.

Generally public transport in the UK is run by private companies, with some government or municipality regulation. Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) national passenger rail timetable information is available on http://data.atoc.org/rail-industry-data and updated weekly; registration is required but free, and once registered the data can be downloaded in bulk under CC-BY UK ported (checked 20 Oct 2013). Fares data is available from the same source under the same licence. Daily schedules of all trains and real-time running information (down to individual signalling events) is available on https://datafeeds.networkrail.co.uk under a licence based on UK OGL v1.

Public transport timetables for bus, light rail, tram and ferry services in Great Britain (but not national rail or coach services) is at http://data.gov.uk/dataset/traveline-national-dataset; this dataset is updated weekly, can be downloaded in bulk and is licensed under the UK OGL v2. An open data source for (privately operated) national coach services or for rail and bus services in the devolved province of Northern Ireland is not known. It cannot be downloaded in bulk and is not provided in a machine readable format (only PDF). There was posted a freedom to information request on the What-do-they-know portal: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/availability_of_timetable_statio but it was not successful (data could not be released). Also a general problem is that both data providers are private entities and not an official government related source.

There is no national central public transport data catalog. Taiwan Railway, Taiwan High Speed Rail and etc., all timetables are in different websites. No changes in 2014.

NRI took over the responsibility of providing national travel data in 2013, and they're still in a process of getting more data (accessibility, realtime etc), more frequent updates, expanding their API etc. All public and private companies providing personal transport are required to export data to NRI, and they as of 2014-11-19 have 214 companies in their database, according to their API.

Whether data is available in bulk is uncertain. This depends on the definition. I've been strict here, since it was not trivial to download the raw base data for all routes in Norway with the current API-documentation. You can however easily list all transport companies, the routes they provide, search to/from and get trip-results, query for further details on each journey etc.

Note1: the license is not prominently mentioned on the website. It is mentioned on the form you have to fill out to get an API-key.

Requested CSV/XLS export but apparently issues with legacy system, resources, etc. Recently more positive engagement, so hopeful a shift to GTFS and mobile app. Most routes have already been independently handcoded into GTFS format by the local open data community to accelerate adoption.

Confirmed that footer on public transport content is outdated and incorrectly links to outdated terms and conditions not the new IM OGL based on the UK OGL.

The Israeli Ministry of Transport issues real-time and static information - GPS locations of vehicles, time tables, routes, etc. The website and the information it contains is the property of the Israeli government, and the Ministry of Transport. In addition to the real-time data, the Ministry provides static, statistical data.

The data available is not complete, only Transilien, Intercités and TER lines are provided and not the main fast TGV lines. Also the licence under which it is released is an internal rewriting of the french ODbL with modifications that make it unsure whether it is actually OpenDefinition compliant.

Revision: the data are updated on a weekly basis for Transilien and every two months for TER and Intercités. So the data is provided on a timely and up to date basis.

There is no national level service operated or regulated by the government for the bus transport.

Australia is somewhat limited in the presence of national transport as most public transport operates at the city or state level (An overview of the situation at the city level can be found via http://www.citygoround.org/agencies/au/?public=all which indicates that availability and open licencing varies substantially across states/transit authorities) - and much national transport is privately provided - for example buses via Greyhound Australia (see http://www.greyhound.com.au/). Looking at rail where there is an interstate system, similar to the UK, Australia has a nationally supported rail system in which the actual service is provided by private operators (but track is publicly owned and maintained). Similar to the UK, there are therefore good public interest grounds for the government to require provision of timetable data. Focusing on rail then there is no consolidated database of timetable information - instead you are directed off to each rail companies website where you must do your own lookup using a classic HTML interface. As such it is clear the data exists and is online but is not machine-readable, not in bulk and based on the notice on various websites not open (for example, Transport West Australia's train website has a classic fully restrictive copyright notice at http://www.transwa.wa.gov.au/Default.aspx?tabid=113)

Timetable data for all public transportation services are collected by non-profit organization (possibly other organizations too) thanks to agreement with government and transportation operators. It is publicly available in form suitable for printing (PDF), or in machine readable form as paid service. Some operators consider their timetable data as trade secret - particularly crazy idea for many. Specifically, national level train transportation timetable information is available at http://www.zsr.sk/slovensky/vyhladavanie-elis.html?page_id=2990 (linked from http://www.zsr.sk/). This data is not machine readable and is not available in bulk.

Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited is a government agency managing public transport system.

The dataset for transport timetables are all available online. The numbers can be found on http://jutc.com/busterminals.php and you go to http://jutc.com/timetables.php and enter the bus number shown from the first link. When you click go, you will be shown details regarding that bus and a link that has its time schedule. Click the link and you will find the times for each destination port.

The data is accessible via another gov-portal, Land Transport Authority: http://www.mytransport.sg/content/mytransport/home/dataMall.html#Traffic_Related:Traffic_Images. Review comment: It is uncertain whether the data are machine readable and available in bulk, because you need to file a request to get them.

National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak, is a publicly funded railroad service operated and managed as a for-profit corporation. Amtrak provides the most meaningful national-scale transportation timetables, as the United States has no national bus service that is publicly funded. The schedule given above is a general schedule of all trains; it doesn't contain schedule information for arrival and departure times for all stations that a train stops at. A copyright notice specifying "Copyright 2014 Georgian Railway. All Rights Reserved" is at the bottom of most timetable pages, although some pages have no copyright notice at all.

Georgian Railway is a government-owned corporation in Georgia.

Data at national level are incomplete. Also, its machine readability is questionable - most of them are in xls, but some include various footnotes which makes machine readability complicated.

Since 2001, complete database is available only to one company which supplies IT services to Ministry of Transport - Chaps. The ministry promised to open the datasets, there is a new regulation, that should come into force in September 2015.

ANTT theoretically offers timetable data for interstatual bus lines. In order to access the data, users have to fill out a form and can only consult one connection at a time. In Brazil there is no significant public transport on a national level by train. The answers are related to bus transport.

The state-owned Austrian Railways (ÖBB) makes the schedules of its trains available in PDF files but retains the full copyright. The links to the PDF files can be found on a single page, the data is updated twice a year as schedules change.

There are several time tables and web sites available. For long-distance buses in Slovenia, there's a from-to query interface at http://www.ap-ljubljana.si/ . Timetables for railways are available at Slovenian Railways home page, http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/sl/potniki/slovenija/vozni-redi - available are both as a from-to query and based on route ("Vozni redi po relacijah"). There's also an XML dump of bus routes, stations and arrivals available at http://www.jpp.si/Pregled/Register.jsp (but none for trains). Timetables for city bus routes in Ljubljana are available at http://www.lpp.si/javni-prevoz/vozni-redi-mestni-potniski-promet/vozni-redi-redni . There is also a query-style web service, displaying arrival time for city buses in Ljubljana http://bus.talktrack.com/

There are a lot of long-distance (national-level) coach services offered by private companies (Intercity, Naked Bus, for example). The NZ Transport Agency is the regulator for land transport and provides licenses for operating long-distance buses (http://www.nzta.govt.nz/commercial/passenger/types.html). Currently they don't provide any timetable data on long-distance transport, though. The long-distance bus companies provide timetables on their website, these are not unified in one database, though. Also, it is currently difficult to know, which long-distance coach services with regular timetables exist as there is no registry of all available services.

The national rail network is limited and there are no published data sets, just timetables. Data is provided in non-machine readable format - just HTML.

National rail company (NMBS/ SNCB) has not made access to the data available.

However a 3rd party group iRail has made this data available for the general public, machine readable as well as in bulk, under an open license. Thanks to the European database law, public transit schedules are not copyrighted. Therefore the data is free for anyone to use, reuse and redistribute.

Only Train services is ran and managed at national level in China so the dataset mentioned here only covers the timetable of train service. The online data is available in a web service on national train service website 12306.cn which is mainly used to book tickets.

The data provided above is for Shosholoza Meyl, the national train operator. South African Airways, the national airline is owned by the South African government and could be considered to be public transport. Their website is http://www.flysaa.com/. Data is not available in bulk and can be accessed through their Route Mapper http://destinations.flysaa.com/en/routemap. There is no government-owned national bus service.

Regarding whether information is provided on a timely and up-to-date basis: One would imagine so as these are frequently used services. Yet no indication is available to inform on when the last update was done.

The assessment was performed with data for the National Ferries Company data; the NFC is a government-owned company for sea transport between major cities in Oman. The data was marked as not up-to-date as the website explicitly states: "Schedule is subject to change, for latest schedule & updates or any queries kindly contact NFC – Call Centre during office office hours on 800 72 000 or (968) 98111162." Thus, there is no tangible reason to consider that the website provides timely and up-to-date information. Data is available as HTML tables only (static webpages per route). No information was identified regarding fares though.

The other systematic public transportation system available in Oman operated by the government is through the buses of the government-owned Oman National Transport Company. The website of ONTC ( http://www.ontcoman.com/ ) does not provide actual information on fares and routes (http://www.ontcoman.com/booking.php is under construction at the time of review). The available information is on the different services the ONTC provides (see http://www.ontcoman.com/services.php).

The trains time schedule is available online on the website of the Egyptian National Railways Authority. You can only search with specific data and start/stop stations, no way to download data in bulk. The search boxed are not user friendly.

Final reviewer: On none of the websites a clear mention of update procedure was identified. Thus, it is unknown whether the information provided is released on a timely and up-to-date basis. The three websites carry a 'copyright' mention at the bottom: the information is thus the property of the respective institution. Lastly, as the data is solely queriable through a web-based interface, it is admitted that the data is not provided in a machine-readable format; there is no way to easily download the whole dataset, therefore data is not available for download in bulk.

• There's a legal provision that says that if someone asks for the data the transport provider is obliged to give it (in Dutch: Besluit personenvervoer 2000, Hoofdstuk 1, Artikel 10.)
• There's a private entity '9292' which licenses out the data they've got from all the providers in a non-open way (current old entry)
• There's another, more community-oriented grassroots entity 'OpenOV' that is providing the data under CC-0 (proposed new entry). Neither of these entries are officially valid for the Index, because they are not from a government source. So should technically be rejected. However, there is a legal provision that gives people the right to obtain the data, even though they don't provide it themselves

This is not a timetable, but rather the bus route. The bus system in Phnom Penh just emerge recently as an effort to solve a traffic congestion by providing an alternative of public transportation.

The data is not provided in bulk nor is it not machine readable and openly licensed. The transport timetables are available as PDF via http://kursbuch.bahn.com and on CD rom and have been reverse-engineered at https://github.com/MichaelKreil/openPlanB

The data is mostly available for the capital Sofia. It's not in an open format, but there is a way to interface with the transportation company's website and is being actively used by several website offering route information and timetables. There are similar websites in other cities, but they mostly rely on static manually entered information on timetables and routes. There is a (mostly) crowdsourced) website allowing search of inter-city busses, but they don't offer data export. The state train company offers search for train routes, but also no export. The data could be scraped in some cases, but in others session information causes great difficulties. Whichever the website considered, the data is systematically the property of the institution that operates the website. It is unclear how other websites access this information but on the original websites, it is impossible to download the data in bulk and it is copyrighted by the respective institution.

The data is available, however, not from the Government. Re-users of the data (third party) created a tool (www.marsrutai.lt) that provides transport data in a user-friendly manner, but does not provide datasets and machine-readable formats.

The site of the Nacional Secretary of Transport doesn´t have timetables in open data - http://www.transporte.gov.ar or in the national open data portal: http://datospublicos.gov.ar.

There is an app to track the line Sarmiento (train) in Buenos Aires (City and Province) but the data doesn't see to be available to the public. The application is available at the Ministry of Internal Affairs: http://www.mininterior.gob.ar/tramitesyservicios/apps.php

The information does not seem to available in general. Something can be found on a tourist site: http://www.vinow.com/ which does give a hint at a time table for each island, e.g. for St. Croix: http://www.vinow.com/stcroix/getting_around_stx/

However this cannot be regarded as official information and furthermore the tourist site claims: "The Bus System is not very reliable, if you are limited in time it is not recommendable."

In Nepal, Time Table data for transportation are not available. Government don't directly manage land/terrestrial transportation for the public. We don't have sea transportation. But there is some timetable for long route transportation within the country which, however, is not maintained properly.

It does not exist public transportation timetable in El Salvador. The public transportation service is provided by a third-party as a concession service.

The public transportation is mostly privately owned in Haiti.

Public transport services in Ecuador are privately managed. There are no national-level government operated public transport services. Trains are operated by the government, though these are used only for tourism services and not for public transportation. There are other city-level public transport services operated or commissioned by local governments, like Metrovía in Guayaquil and Trolebus in Quito. This question was answered considering privately operated national-level public transport services (interprovincial buses). Most timetables are available in printed form, and some bus companies have it published on their websites.

There is no evidence that this data exists. The Ministry for Transport and Aviation does not appear to have a website; neither does the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority. Finally, the Sierra Leone Government Railway was closed in 1974.

There is some transportation companies, we don't know what kind of agreement they have with the Government. At any case no data are available from both concerning public transsport.

There is no consolidated data on time tables of regional and interregional bus lines.

The Kenyan public transport system is mostly run by the private sector. Some long distance buses will have travel timetables pinned on the wall in their offices or posted on their websites. The Railway is owned by a private company - Rift Valley Railyway. The only government affiliated public transport system is a railway service but this only serves a section of Nairobi (from Syokimau to Nairobi). [Unchanged since 2013]

NOT APPLICABLE WOULD BE THE BEST RESPONSE HERE. There is no national public transit system in Canada. Public transportation data are only available at the jurisdiction where the service is delivered. Canada as a federation of provinces and territories delivers transit at the level of the city or municipality or other local authority which fall under the jurisdiction of provinces and territories. Cross provincial and territorial transportation would be federally administered but this is not a transit system. (No change from 2013)

There is a link in the Department of Road Transport website for transportation information (http://www.mcw.gov.cy/mcw/rtd/rtd.nsf/rtd71_gr/rtd71_gr?OpenDocument), but this does not include any timetables. Any information on bus transportation can be found through private websites, not government ones.

Submitters comments: There are no digital timetables available online, (there is no passenger train service). All public transport is privately owned. There are basic timetables available in printed form upon request as is a rudimentary description of minibus routes - but not online.

Reviewers comments: Online research confirms that since 2009 there has not been public train transportation services in Botswana (since state-owned Botswana Railways folded), although services from Zimbabve still run through a very small part of the country. There are plenty of bus services, but all appear to be run by privately owned companies. As a consequence I have marked this dataset as not available.

Rail services in Zambia are operated by the Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ) and TAZARA Railway, both are privately owned companies.
